The first impression of a shark is that it is the ruler of the sea and not that they can be a great meal made in the form of shark steaks. When we think of sharks, usually the first thing that comes into our mind is Jaws. Instead of us being the main course, you can turn the role around by eating some great tasting shark steaks. Shark steaks come in many varieties as there are many types of different sharks to choose from. With sharks usually being over one-thousand pounds, they have a lot of great tasting meat to offer to food lovers.
Shark steaks come in not only variety, but also different tastes. The bonito shark meat is almost completely identical to a swordfish steak. They look and taste the same, except that a bonito shark steak can be much more healthier then a swordfish. If you like blacktip, then you will like the sandbar shark, as it tastes relatively the same. Shark steaks are not only great in taste, but they are also great nutritionally.
Shark steaks are low in fat, have a good source of protein and carry a good source of vitamins and other minerals. You can find such things as Vitamin B12, Niacin, Magnesium and Selenium in shark steak. When you fry or batter-dip shark steaks, they provide an additional source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Unlike other types of steaks, shark steak can also be cooked in a variety of ways. Shark steaks can be grilled, poached, baked, broiled, pan fried, stir-fried, and even steamed. Steaming usually takes the longest to cook as you are supposed to steam the shark steak for eight to ten minutes for about every inch of shark.
There is a certain way to buy the best shark steak meat. Most shark steak meat will have a light ammonia smell. This is normal. However, you do not want to buy shark steak that has a very strong ammonia smell, as this indicates that the shark was not bled right when it was caught. Shark steak should be a little spongy when you press it, but should retract to being firm.
Shark steak is very versatile, comes in many different tastes, can be cooked in a variety if ways and is very healthy for our bodies. Sharks may be rulers of the sea, but they are not when we have them on our grill.

There is probably room in everyone's life for a little bit of better, healthier eating. Choosing to eat healthier may begin with changing our eating habits when we eat out, but that is only one facet of a large endeavor. Healthier eating habits can easily begin at home, simply by altering some of the ways that food is prepared. Cooking to eat healthy does not ever have to mean that your meals will be boring, either because there are many healthy eating tips which will actually enhance the flavors while improving your health!

1. Choosing cuts of meat which are leaner can do wonders for your diet. Try to substitute lower fat options into your meals whenever possible, such as chicken or fish. This does not mean you have to avoid red meat however, because there are much leaner options available to you, provided that you know what to look for. When you are out looking for meat options, look for the words 'round', or 'sirloin', which are naturally lower in fat than others. You should also choose cuts of meat with the least amount of marbling available, and trim off as much fat as you can before cooking. Most ground beef is available as 95-percent lean, which is your best option. Another great meat choice is pork, which is fairly lean by nature. Making healthy meat choices can cut a lot of unnecessary fat out of your diet, and will make it possible for you to eat healthy meat without stressing out about it.

2. If you are looking for new ways to spice up your old vegetables, you may consider adding a little bit of vegetable and chicken broth and sautéing them with just a little bit of chopped herbs. Adding even the smallest pinch of a zesty herb like chives can work wonders for the taste of your vegetables. Another option that is often overlooked involves roasting your vegetables, which is a great option for firm or root vegetables like squash or even cauliflower. Seasonings like curry powder, Italian seasoning or a Cajun blend are great if you are looking for vegetables with a kick. Simply slice your vegetables into sizeable chunks, toss some cooking spray and seasonings on, and roast either in the oven or on skewers in your grill. Sometimes all it takes is a new recipe to urge you to eat more healthy vegetables.

3. Healthy eating does not necessarily have to mean giving up any of your old favorite recipes either. Before you throw out your favorite recipe cards, try making modifications which can make the meal healthier. Some examples include using half of the prescribed amount of oil, or substituting applesauce in for oil in baked good recipes. If a recipe calls for cream, you can use evaporated milk, skim milk preferred. You can also consider removing the skin from any meats in the dish. There are many ways that you can substitute healthier options in to your old favorites so that your slightly less than healthy recipes can continue to lighten up your menu.

4. Do not even think about giving dessert up, simply by choosing to eat healthily! There are some wonderful things that you can do with fruit, such as mixing a bowl of berries and low fat or fat free vanilla yogurt for a sweet treat. Another favorite involves sautéed bananas which are sprinkled with a little bit of vanilla extract and cinnamon. There are so many things that you can do with healthy, fresh fruit that you will not even have to think about sugar-packed sweet treats like candies and ice cream.

Perhaps few people realize that eating too much kills in the long run. Excessive eating is a sure way to shorten your life. Research has produced evidence to the effect that animals (rats, mice and worms) that are fed fewer calories each day live longer than those whose diet is unrestricted. Laboratory animals on restricted diet lived 40% longer than the others on normal diet.

Similar studies on rhesus monkeys and human beings are yet to produce results, but there are already enough bio-indicators that suggest that these too with controlled intake of calories have beneficial effects on aging and health. Those who restrict their diet and calorie intake experience lower risk of heart disease, less chance of a stroke and less prone to diabetes and, generally, better health. Their levels of triglycerides, cholesterol and blood pressure, which usually tend to rise with increasing age, stay normal. This is a very good sign of good health. Another benefit of limiting the calorie intake is that the body fat will be comparatively low, due to which the occurrence of type 2 diabetes is also rare in such cases.

You do not need to starve for restricting your calorie intake. Neither do you have to suffer malnutrition. You only have to maintain the balance in the nutritional intake while reducing the calories you eat.

Some suggest intermittent fasting as an alternative to calorie restriction on a regular basis. While on normal days a person is allowed freedom to eat what he likes, on days of fasting the number of calories taken in is drastically cut, with the total overall intake of calories being almost the same as that when restriction on calorie intake is observed on all days. Research, however, has yet to prove conclusively that this alternative is as good, although even through occasional or intermittent fasting one is believed to achieve the same sort of health benefits, including weight loss, even if to a lesser extent. One well-known researcher suggests that whereas a diet that restricts the intake of calories curtails free radicals, intermittent fasting makes cells resistant to stress that causes several diseases. In both the cases, there is a likelihood of improvement in health and longevity.

In ancient Egypt, women made use of plant products for enhancing their beauty. Extracts from plants were applied to their eyelids, lips and cheeks. Plant products were also useful as perfumes and body anointments. Flowers were used in ancient Rome as bath scents. Roman women applied herbal face masks for better looks. The Greeks knew how to make cold creams as early as the second century A.D. Several ancient peoples of the world made use of herbs and flowers for beautification of their bodies.

Even in modern times, when the cosmetic industry has advanced due to the use of science and technology, several women make concoctions out of herbs and flowers for topical application as well as for internal use and save considerable money by not buying expensive ready made cosmetics. They also keep experimenting for arriving at a beauty solution that suits their skin and hair the best. They try various recipes and the ratios of the ingredients for skin lotions, shampoos, scented baths, facials and so on, in order to tailor the products to their particular needs. They usually save a lot of the money that they would otherwise have spent on the readily available beauty enhancers in the market.

Some natural beauty aids
Among some of the common herbs used for skin care, you can include green tea due to its natural antiseptic properties. It is good for stopping skin irritation and acne. Tea Tree oil is believed to be excellent for hair growth and for banishing lice. As a natural moisturizer, unrefined Shea Butter can be used on the skin for softening it. It is also good for cracked heels and improving the appearance of stretch marks. If you massage your scalp with Jojoba oil, your hair grows wonderfully well. The extract of the berries of the small palm, Saw Palmetto, also works very well for improving the scalp and the skin condition. Men also use it for maintenance of their hair by massaging it into the scalp. Beauty stores sell facemasks and facial creams containing Seaweed, which re-hydrates dry skin and leaves it smooth and shining.

Alfalfa is used for repairing broken nails and as a mouth freshener, as it stops bad breath in the mouth. Aloe vera is known to work on the skin for giving it a radiant appearance and a smooth, youthful look. basil, a plant considered sacred in India, is used quite extensively in cosmetics. Mixed with neem powder, mint leaves and a little turmeric powder, basil leaves are good for dark spots on the face. Another useful herbal product is Primrose oil. It works well for improving skin texture, hair growth as well as the health of your nails.

When mixed with rosewater, lemon and milk, Turmeric powder forms into a paste, which can be applied and left on the face for about fifteen minutes and then washed off with cold water. Turmeric is good for oily skin. Thyme is used in ointments for reducing skin spots. For reducing wrinkles on the skin and energizing the skin, Rosemary oil can be topically applied. Rosemary improves blood circulation.

There are numerous other skin care and beauty herbs, which are not only safe to use but also comparatively inexpensive, particularly when the beauty enhancing recipes are made at home.

A sedentary keyboarding lifestyle leaves your bottom half pretty well-rounded and growing if you don’t use caution with your diet. To help get and keep better fit, try these diet tips during your day.

1)	Drink plenty of water and healthy beverages throughout the day. Skip the sodas and other sugary drinks. You can get flavored waters, teas, coffees and other healthier beverages, but do skip the sugar in all of them when possible or at least opt for much less sugar or diet drinks and shakes.

2)	Look at your local stores for diet snacks and drinks. You can often find healthy power bars and other snack bars, protein shakes and trail mix. If your store doesn’t have much of a selection, check on Amazon.com and eBay.com, especially for special rates and discounted bulk packages.

3)	Opt for fresh fruits when you can, over fruit juice or water down your juice, like half-and-half. These means less unhealthy sugar.

4)	Check with your healthcare provider and see about adding vitamins and other supplements to your daily diet.

5)	Brush your teeth after each snack and meal. This will cut down on your desire to snack more, because you won’t want to keep cleaning your teeth over and over.

6)	No need to totally cut out fat. Just cut down, though, and trim fats, eat white meats, nuts and fish more.

7) Make healthy substitutions when you can like apple sauce for oil in recipes, and no fat non-stick spray for grease in pans.

Don’t keep jumping around to different fad diets. Either develop a plan following the approval of your doctor, or get professional help choosing and following the right one for you.

9)	Go long! When you take a snack break, get up and away form your computer. Do NOT eat there in front of it or around it even. When possible go outside for some fresh air. But get up off your rear and hunt down your food. Don’t make snacking so easy. Stash your goodies in your car and park far away, for example.

10)Keep plenty of healthy foods: fruits and vegetables around, plus dips and anything else you like to go with them. You know where your chocolate is, but how anbout healthy stuff? Set out a fruit basket!

11)While you’re eating - -STAND. While you’re doing other things on your break – - STAND. In other words, stop sitting so much.
